Violence breaks out in pacified Rio slum

Authorities in Rio de Janeiro say they've sent in reinforcements after soldiers patrolling a massive slum came under fire.
Marcus Boucas is the spokesman for the pacification force in the Alemao complex of slums that was taken back from drug traffickers last November. He tells Globo television's G1 website that shots were fired at soldiers from a neighboring slum that traffickers still control. He didn't say if anyone was hurt.
Witnesses tell The Associated Press that some civilians have been shot.
The slum has seen unrest in recent days. Residents have clashed with the soldiers, complaining of heavy-handed treatment.
The takeover of the slum last year was a major victory for police in their push to secure Rio before the 2016 Olympics.
