The United Arab Emirates has fired coach Srecko Katanec after his team lost 3-1 to Lebanon on Tuesday in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
The UAE has almost no chance of advancing from Group B after two losses, and with a match against World Cup veterans South Korea next.
Slovenian coach Katanec was appointed in June 2009 after quitting as Macedonia's coach, but has been unable to jump-start an attack which failed to score earlier this year at the Asian Cup.
The UAE has not named a replacement for Katanec, who led Slovenia to the 2000 European Championships and the 2002 World Cup.
