Demus wins women's 400-meter hurdles at worlds

Lashinda Demus of the United States won the women's 400-meter hurdles at the world championships on Thursday, holding off Melaine Walker of Jamaica at the line.
Natalya Antyukh of Russia took bronze.
Demus and defending champion Walker were level through the last hurdle but Demus had the best finishing kick and won in 52.47 seconds, beating the Jamaican by .26 seconds. Antyukh finished in 53.85.
It was the third gold medal for the United States in an hour at Daegu Stadium after Jesse Williams won the men's high jump and Jennifer Barringer Simpson won the women's 1,500.
