Egypt recognizes Libyan rebel council

Egypt has recognized the Libyan opposition's National Transitional Council as the representative of the Libyan people, a day after rebel forces entered the capital Tripoli.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr announced the decision Monday at a press conference in Cairo with Libya's former representative to the Arab League, who himself defected.
Egypt shares its western border with Libya and helped inspired the Libyans with its own revolt that ousted Hosni Mubarak.
Libya was a magnet for hundreds of thousands of mostly impoverished Egyptian workers, many who were forced to flee after the civil war erupted.
Hundreds of Egyptians and Libyan expatriates celebrated in front of the Libyan Embassy in Cairo to mark the rebel advance.
