Lithuania alarmed by laser light attacks on planes

Lithuanian police say they are investigating several cases of aircraft pilots being blinded by a bright green laser light during landing at Vilnius International Airport.
Police spokesman Paulius Radvilavicius said Thursday that investigators have appealed to the population for any information about the laser attacks, which are powerful enough to cause permanent eye damage.
The Civil Aviation Administration says the latest instance occurred Tuesday as a Boeing 737 was approaching the runway at the airport. The pilot was temporarily blinded by a green light beam but managed to safely land the plane.
Similar attacks have occurred in the United States and elsewhere in Europe.
Powerful laser lights made in China or Russia can be purchased on the Internet for about (EURO)20 ($30).
