US woman competent, to plead in 5 newborn deaths

A U.S. woman charged with killing five newborns after hidden pregnancies has been found mentally competent and is set to plead next month.
A judge made her finding Wednesday after ordering independent psychiatric testing of Michele Kalina.
Kalina is now set for a plea and sentencing on Aug. 4.
She is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of corpse and other charges. It's not clear what she will plead to, and a gag order prevents lawyers from discussing the case.
DNA tests show the 45-year-old home-health aide conceived the babies through a long affair with a co-worker. Neither he nor Kalina's husband knew about the pregnancies.
Authorities say Kalina moved the remains with her and kept them in a locked closet until her teen daughter found them last year.
