French Greens name ex-judge as pres candidate

France's environmentalist party has named a former investigative judge as its candidate for next year's presidential elections.
Eva Joly beat out the popular television host of an ecology show, Nicolas Hulot, for the nomination, in a party vote. She won 58 percent of votes compared with Hulot's 41 percent.
The Norwegian-born 67-year-old Joly captured nationwide attention for her judicial crusade against corruption, including a high-profile case against French oil giant Elf in the 1990s. She retired in 2002.
Two-round elections will be held in April and May 2012. Conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy has not yet announced his candidacy for a second mandate but is widely expected to do so.
