UN: Heavy bombing reported in Sudan border state

The United Nations says staff in Sudan have reported heavy aerial bombardment in South Kordofan state in recent days.
The U.N. humanitarian coordination office says aid workers reported heavy bombing and gunfire in several parts of South Kordofan, including around the state capital Kadugli as recently as Monday.
South Kordofan lies on the border with the newly independent country of South Sudan and has been the site of clashes between government troops from the north and southern-aligned forces.
The U.N. said Tuesday it was unable to determine if there had been casualties as authorities have prevented the global body from traveling to most areas.
It said aid supplies are running "critically low, and need urgent replenishment as soon as access is granted for humanitarian actors."
