Leverkusen goalkeeper Adler needs knee surgery

Bayer Leverkusen says goalkeeper Rene Adler needs knee surgery and will be out until further notice.
Adler will undergo surgery on his right knee on Wednesday to remove damaged tissue. Adler is also backup to Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Neuer advanced to No. 1 when Adler's rib injury prevented him from going to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Leverkusen finished last season in second place and will play in the Champions League. The Bundesliga season starts Aug. 5.
