An Italian soldier has been killed in western Afghanistan.
The Defense Ministry says army Maj. Roberto Marchini was killed by a roadside bomb Tuesday during a joint patrol in Bakwa, in Farah province.
Italy has some 4,200 troops in the NATO force in Afghanistan, based in the areas of Kabul and Herat.
