Philippine communist rebels free soldier

The Philippine military says suspected communist guerrillas have freed an army outpost commander two days after he and three other people were snatched in the country's volatile south.
Army Maj. Eugenio Julio Osias says New People's Army rebels freed Cpl. Jawad Awadi late Monday from an encampment in Agusan del Sur Province's San Luis town. He hiked down a mountain and reported to his superiors in a camp.
Osias said Tuesday that Awadi was taken at gunpoint with a militiaman and two villagers while traveling in a motorcycle taxi to a market in San Luis. Awadi's companions were immediately freed.
The government and the rebels resumed talks this year to end one of Asia's longest-running Marxist rebellions, but clashes have continued.
