Investigators scour blast scene at Cypriot base

Investigators are combing a Cypriot naval base for clues as to why hundreds of tons of seized gunpowder being stored there exploded.
The blast killed 12 people, including the island's navy chief and prompted the resignation of the defense minister and top military chief.
Greek experts were assisting Cypriot investigators on Tuesday at the Evangelos Florakis base on the Mediterranean island's south coast amid growing criticism over how the gunpowder had been stored. The material was seized from a ship in 2009 that the U.N. said was breaching a ban on arms exports.
Rolling power cuts were in effect island-wide after Monday's blast knocked out the island's main power station. Officials said it could take months to bring the station fully back online.
