US: No damage in NKorea chairing disarmament body

The U.S. is not taking action over accused nuclear proliferator North Korea taking the rotatating presidency of a global disarmament body, saying it is "inconsequential."
Canada is reportedly boycotting the 65-nation Conference on Disarmament during North Korea's four-week tenure, which began this month.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Monday the U.S. is not making a big deal of the appointment as it does not see any damage North Korea can cause by its role in the consensus-based organization.
The conference has been stalemated since it wrote the nuclear test ban treaty in 1996.
Nuland said the U.S. is concentrating its disarmament efforts through the P5-plus-one, or the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany.
