Greece names privatization committee

Greece's Socialist government has named a five-member committee to head a (EURO)50 billion ($71.2 billion) privatization program aimed at easing the country's (EURO)340 billion ($484.2 billion) national debt.
The Finance Ministry said Monday that respected academic and former European parliament member Ioannis Koukiadis will head the committee, which must be confirmed by parliament.
The anticipated announcement was made as top European finance officials were meeting in Brussels to discuss the Greek debt crisis, amid renewed market fears over other financially vulnerable eurozone members.
Shares on the Athens Stock Exchange were down 2.39 percent at 1,221.39 percent in afternoon trading.
