Kuomintang says budget ignores Taiwan economy

Kuomintang legislative caucus whip Tsai Chin-Lung accused the Democratic Progressive Party administration yesterday of ignoring the needs of Taiwan's economy after the Executive Yuan made public the central government's 2007 expenditure budget Wednesday.
The Executive Yuan approved the central government's expenditure and income budget plans of NT$1.66 trillion and NT$1.51 trillion Wednesday, up by 5.9 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively, year on year. Budgets for the Ministry of National Defense totaled NT$323.5 billion, an annual increase of 28.1 percent.
According to Tsai, the large growth in budget allocations for military purposes reflects a lack of DPP concern for the people's livelihoods.
Tsai urged Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) to pay heed to the public's complaints about rising product prices and stagnant salaries.
