Spain criticizes rivals' tactics in Ryder Cup vote

The leader of Spain's failed Ryder Cup bid has criticized rival candidates for making the death of Seve Ballesteros an issue in the campaign to host the 2018 tournament.
Gonzaga Escauriaza, the president of the Spanish golf federation, says he was disappointed to see opponents claim that it would be unfair to award the tournament to Spain as a tribute to Ballesteros.
Escauriaza says "I saw some comments from some of the bids that they shouldn't give it to Spain because of Severiano. I don't think that was fair."
Escauriaza said Tuesday he chose not to use the death this month of Ballesteros as a campaigning tool.
France beat Spain and three other candidates to the hosting rights for the 2018 match.
