Pakistan's army says a Yemeni national it describes as a "senior al-Qaida operative" has been arrested in the city of Karachi.
It identifies the man as Muhammad Ali Qasim Yaqub, alias Abu Sohaib Al Makki.
The army said Tuesday the man had been working directly under al-Qaida leaders along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It gave no further details.
It was not immediately possible to locate any independent information about Al Makki.
Pakistan has been under international pressure since the May 2 American raid on Osama bin Laden, who was living in a garrison town not far from Islamabad because of questions about whether Pakistan knew he was there or helped him hide. Pakistan has hotly denied both allegations.
