Serbia to curb influx of asylum seekers to EU

Serbia is pledging to curb the influx of asylum seekers to the European Union countries, which has jeopardized the country's hard-won vise-free travel regime with the bloc.
Thousands of people from Serbia _ mostly Romas and ethnic Albanians from its poor south _ have sought political asylum in the EU since travel visas were revoked in 2010. Most of the requests have been turned down.
The problem has triggered warnings from the EU that the visa-free travel for Serbia could be suspended.
Government official Bozidar Djelic told lawmakers Wednesday state measures will include criminal prosecution for the people organizing transport for those planning to seek asylum.
