ACLU: Immigrant settles detention case in US state

A Mexican immigrant suspected of being in the country illegally could receive $90,000 to settle a lawsuit claiming he was unlawfully held in a Colorado jail for 47 days.
The American Civil Liberties Union said Tuesday that Luis Quezada reached a $40,000 settlement with the local sheriff's office, which held him at the request of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2009.
Quezada, who according to ICE is from Mexico, reached a $50,000 settlement with ICE earlier this month. The agency acknowledged no wrongdoing by settling the case.
Quezada was arrested for failing to appear in court on traffic charges. Quezada alleges he was held even though a 48-hour request from ICE had expired.
Sheriff's spokesman Mark Techmeyer says his office couldn't comment because the case still needs to be approved by the county commissioners.
