Prime Minister David Cameron says about 400 British troops will be pulled out of Afghanistan in the coming year.
Cameron was speaking to senior lawmakers who questioned him Tuesday about defense and foreign policy.
The leader said that Britain will continue to play a significant role in supporting the American-led operation in Afghanistan. Britain now has about 9,500 troops stationed there.
He denied claims that British defense is suffering from massive public spending cuts, saying that the country remains at "full spectrum defense capability."
Cameron has indicated that he wanted all British soldiers to return home before 2015.
