UN to launch fresh aid appeal for Libya

The United Nations says it will launch a fresh appeal for funds Wednesday to pay for humanitarian aid to war-torn Libya.
The U.N.'s aid coordinator for Libya, Panos Moumtzis, says he expects the appeal for the June-August period to be as large or greater than the $310 million the global body requested for the first three months of the conflict.
Moumtzis says the U.N. is hoping the government and rebels will agree on a so-called humanitarian pause so aid groups can reach the worst-hit areas, deliver supplies and evacuate injured people.
Moumtzis told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday that the situation is particularly dire in Libya's Western Mountain region and the embattled port city of Misrata.
