The Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping prosecutor has recommended a two-year ban for canoeist Franco Benedini.
The Italian canoe federation said in January it had sent Benedini home from a training camp in Australia after banned substances were found in his hotel room by a coach.
Benedini helped the Italian team finish fourth in the K4 1,000 meters at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The prosecutor also recommended a six-month ban for Albino Massimiliano Battelli, one of Benedini's teammates who was also at the Australian camp, for failing to cooperate with the inquiry.
The cases will now be decided by CONI's internal doping court.
