Montenegro's gay pride canceled

Organizers have canceled Montenegro's first ever gay pride event citing lack of government support.
The gathering was planned for May 31 in the capital Podgorica. Opponents in the highly conservative Balkan country had threatened to disrupt it.
Montenegro's government has publicly backed the event, widely seen as a test of commitment to human rights as the country seeks EU membership.
But organizers from Montenegrin gay groups said Tuesday this support was not backed by action. Zdravko Cimbaljevic from LGBT Forum Progress group accused the authorities of "lack of seriousness and professionalism."
The government has not commented.
