China has downplayed a U.N. report accusing North Korea of actively exporting ballistic missiles, components and technology to customers in the Middle East.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday in a faxed statement that the report does not represent the position of the Security Council nor the position of the relevant Security Council sanctions committee.
The report was preparedby a seven-member sanctions monitoring panel for the U.N. Security Council. It was obtained Monday by The Associated Press and said North Korea was exporting missiles and technology in violation of United Nations sanctions. Diplomats say the shipments were going through China.
