London retailers celebrate royal wedding boost

Retailers in central London are celebrating after spending by international visitors for the royal wedding and the Easter vacation gave them their best sales month in two years.
The New West End Company, which represents 600 retailers in the heart of the capital, said Monday that sales increased 7.6 percent compared to a year earlier.
The group says that there was also an 8.6 percent increase in footfall _ a strong improvement compared to UK-wide growth of 0.8 percent.
International shoppers' spending soared by 122 percent. That's the greatest increase since March 2009.
Kate Brindley, a spokeswoman for Liberty department store, says that royal wedding memorabilia such as tea towels, mugs and chocolates drove sales.
