Merkel: Don't prejudge Strauss-Kahn case

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says it's "important not to engage in assumptions of guilt" while legal proceedings against the head of the International Monetary Fund are ongoing.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn was taken into custody in New York over an alleged sexual assault on a hotel maid on Saturday.
Merkel said that whether Strauss-Kahn will have to be replaced at the IMF "does not arise today."
She, however, has indicated that Germany would like the fund's next leader to be a European, as has traditionally been the case.
She says that emerging countries have a claim to the job in the medium term _ but amid the eurozone debt crisis, "there are good reasons for Europe also to have good candidates available."
