UK's Clegg vows to be more assertive in govt

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has pledged his Liberal Democrat party will be more assertive in Britain's coalition government following a humiliating defeat in last week's local elections.
Clegg has been accused of pandering to Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative Party. Analysts have said the electoral drubbing and voters' rejection of the Liberal Democrats' push for electoral-system change was punishment for backing Cameron's austerity cuts.
The deputy prime minister insisted Sunday that his party can recover from the recent setback, telling the BBC that the lesson he takes away from the results is "that people want a louder Liberal Democrat voice in government."
