Tribune Co. picks LA Times publisher as new CEO

The publisher of the Los Angeles Times has been named CEO of Tribune Co.
The company, which owns the Times, the Chicago Tribune and other daily newspapers, announced Eddy Hartenstein's appointment to its top job Friday. The move comes more than six months after Tribune Co.'s previous CEO, Randy Michaels, resigned after complaints about raunchy behavior that occurred under his watch.
Tribune Co. has been operating under federal bankruptcy protection since December 2008. The company is trying to win court approval of its reorganization plan.
Hartenstein, 60, had been part of a four-member executive council that had been splitting the CEO duties since Michaels' departure.
Hartenstein will remain publisher of the Los Angeles Times, the fourth-largest newspaper in the U.S. He has held that job since 2008.
