Verdasco, Raonic meet in Estoril semifinals

Second-seeded Fernando Verdasco rallied to beat Kevin Anderson while hard-hitting Canadian player Milos Raonic overcame several delays to beat Gilles Simon and set up a semifinal match against the Spaniard at the Estoril Open on Saturday.
Verdasco trailed by a set when play was curtailed by bad light on Friday, but he dominated on the clay Saturday to pull out a 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-3 victory. The 12th-ranked Spanish player never faced a break point while breaking his seventh-seeded South African opponent three times over the final two sets to win.
Raonic's hard-fought 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 win ensured he played Verdasco for the third time this season. Raonic, seeded fifth, won both previous meetings at San Jose and Memphis, with the 20-year-old earning his first title over Verdasco at the final of the former.
Raonic, whose quarterfinal match was also carried over to Saturday, overcame a 6-5 first-set deficit to pull ahead against Simon.
Raonic rallied from 4-0 down in the second frame to draw even before the Frenchman earned a break point before holding serve to tie it.
Locked at 1-1 in the deciding set, another rain delay forced the players indoors for more than an hour before Raonic broke Simon late in the set to reach his third semifinal of the season.
Verdasco and Raonic will play later Saturday following the other semifinal match between Juan Martin del Potro and Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.
Meanwhile, Anabel Medina Garrigues braved the rain delay to capture her 10th WTA title by beating Kristina Barrois 6-1, 6-2 in the women's final Saturday.
The 61st-ranked Spaniard was leading 3-2 in the second set when rain interrupted the match.
But the break did little to rattle Medina Garrigues, who dropped just seven points on first serve and broke her opponent six times to capture her ninth clay court title, a feat that matches Venus Williams' record among active players.
