Eurozone unemployment drops below 10 percent

Official figures show that unemployment in the 17 euro countries fell below 10 percent in February for the first time in over a year, another sign the region's economy is enjoying a fairly sturdy recovery despite debt troubles in a number of countries.
Eurostat, the EU's statistics office, said Friday that unemployment in the region fell by 89,000 in February, helping to take the rate down to 9.9 percent from January's 10 percent. That's the first time the rate has been below 10 percent since December 2009.
Analysts consider higher employment, which usually results in increased consumer spending, will be instrumental to make the recovery self-sustained.
