Sri Lanka was 147 for one after 30 overs, chasing 218 to beat New Zealand in the World Cup semifinal and earn a place in the April 2 final at Mumbai.
Tillakaratne Dilshan was unbeaten on 64, batting with Kumar Sangakkara on 46.
New Zealand was bowled out for 217 in 48.5 overs, with Scott Styris scoring 57. Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis took three wickets apiece and Muttiah Muralitharan took a wicket with his last ever delivery in international cricket in Sri Lanka.
