Latest developments in Arab world's unrest

Here is a look at the latest developments in Mideast political unrest on Wednesday:
_____
LIBYA
International airstrikes force Moammar Gadhafi's tanks to roll back from the western city of Misrata, a local doctor says, giving respite to civilians who have endured more than a week of attacks and a punishing blockade. In the east, civilians fleeing another strategic city describe relentless shelling and dire conditions. Western diplomats near an agreement to let NATO assume responsibility for the no-fly zone and its warships begin patrolling off Libya's Mediterranean coast.
_____
YEMEN
Yemen's parliament enacts sweeping emergency laws after the country's embattled president asks for new powers of arrest, detention and censorship to quash a popular uprising demanding his ouster. The move escalates the showdown between Ali Abdullah Saleh and the movement that has unified military commanders, religious leaders and protesting youth in demands for his immediate departure.
___
SYRIA
Syrian security forces shoot live ammunition and tear gas near a mosque where protesters have been camped out in southern Syria, killing six people including a paramedic, activists said. The early morning attack near the al-Omari mosque in the southern city of Daraa marks the deadliest single day since anti-government protests inspired by uprisings across the Arab world reached this country last week. The latest deaths brings the number of people killed in Daraa since Friday to at least 13.
