BP: too early to say how much oil spilled in Gulf

BP has declined to estimate how much oil was spilled in the Gulf of Mexico from its busted Macondo well last year, saying more data still has to be gathered.
The company says in its 2010 Sustainability Review released Wednesday that while third-party oil spill estimates have been made public, "we believe that no accurate determination can be made or reported until further information is collected."
The report says analysis on the condition of the failed blowout preventer also needs to be completed first.
The U.S. government estimates some 200 million gallons of oil spewed into the Gulf.
Chief Executive Bob Dudley says 2011 will be a year of consolidation for BP as it focuses on safety. He adds BP will invest in areas where it excels, such as exploration.
