Putin visits Balkan ally Serbia for pipeline talks

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has arrived in Serbia for talks focusing on economic issues and energy _ including construction of the South Stream pipeline to transport Russian natural gas to Europe.
Putin will meet with Serbia's top officials and visit the country's parliament. Officials have said Russia and Serbia will sign three economic agreements during the Putin's trip. The two nations are key allies.
Putin arrived Wednesday from Slovenia where he tried to assure officials that the pipeline is not in jeopardy as some Kremlin officials have suggested. He said that "nothing will stop us" from completing the project.
The project is dealing a blow to a rival pipeline supported by the United States and the European Union.
