Hannover Re sees Japan losses at $355 million

German reinsurer Hannover Re AG says it expects to take losses of (EURO)250 million ($355 million) from the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The company, based in Hannover, Germany, said Wednesday the figure could still change, as the assessment was uncertain due to the lack of accurate information in the wake of the March 11 natural disasters.
Hannover Re chief executive Ulrich Wallin pledged the company's support for its Japanese clients.
Japan's government has estimated the total economic costs of disaster in the nation's northeast could reach $309 billion.
