China sets execution date for Filipino drug mules

An official says Chinese courts have set the execution date for three Filipinos convicted of drug trafficking in China despite appeals for clemency by the Philippine government.
Philippines Foreign Affairs spokesman Eduardo Malaya says that one man and one woman will be executed on March 30 in Xiamen and another woman will be executed the same day in Shenzhen.
The three were arrested separately in 2008 carrying packages containing several pounds (kilograms) of heroin. They were convicted and sentenced in 2009.
China had postponed the executions originally set for Feb. 20-21 following a visit to Beijing by Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Malaya said Wednesday that the Philippines respects Chinese laws and the finality of the verdict.
