2 peacekeepers ambushed and shot in Darfur

Gunmen have ambushed and shot two peacekeepers serving with the joint United Nations-African Union force in West Darfur.
The force, known as UNAMID, said in a statement that the uniformed peacekeepers had just completed escort duties Tuesday afternoon when their vehicle was fired on by unknown men in the village of Masteri, 28 miles (45 kilometers) south of El Geneina.
UNAMID said the driver was seriously injured and his colleague is in critical condition.
The AU-UN joint representative, Ibrahim Gambari expressed outrage at the "cowardly attack" against peacekeepers trying to help restore peace and stability to Dafur where conflict first erupted in 2003.
UNAMID called on the Sudanese government to identify, capture and swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.
