England cuts Twenty20 matches in restructuring

English cricket authorities say they are cutting the amount of Twenty20 matches in a restructuring of the domestic season.
The England and Wales Cricket Board says the premier County Championship tournament will remain in two leagues of nine sides, but that the group stage of the Twenty20 cup will be trimmed from 16 games per team to 10 _ all played in June and July.
The latter stages will remain in the current format of quarterfinals and the high-profile Finals Day, which features two semifinals and the final.
ECB chairman Giles Clarke said Tuesday that the reduction in matches "will be to the long-term benefit of the county game in England and Wales."
