Bulgaria gets ready for nuke plant checks

Bulgaria is launching preparations for a "stress test" of its only nuclear power plant in Kozlodui to see how it would react in emergencies.
Following the European Union's stress test initiative, the government on Tuesday ordered safety checks of the plant's two 1,000-megawatt reactors to determine its capacity to resist earthquakes or floods.
The government says the tests are also to assess risks from power cuts and terrorist attacks, as well as the suitability of cooling and backup systems, the type of reactors and their exploitation life.
No date was announced for the tests. Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency will be invited to oversee them.
Last week, the EU decided to apply stress tests on its 143 nuclear reactors in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami that crippled Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant.
