Pressure mounts on Romanian MEP to step down

A Romanian party leader has called for a European Parliament lawmaker involved in alleged bribery claims to resign.
Victor Ponta, who heads the Social Democratic Party, urged Adrian Severin to resign from the party and from the European Parliament. Ponta says Tuesday Severin will be fired from the party, if he doesn't resign.
Severin refused to resign from the party, although on Monday he resigned as deputy chairman from the Romanian party.
The Sunday Times reported that three European Parliament lawmakers, including Severin, agreed to propose legislation at the EU Parliament in return for bribes. The other two lawmakers resigned following the report.
