London police to protesters: follow us on Twitter

British police have a message for demonstrators planning for a huge protest against government spending cuts: Follow us on Twitter.
The union-organized march is aimed at voicing anger over deep cuts to public sector spending, jobs and services.
Union boss Brendan Barber says Saturday's march is expected to draw at least 100,000 people, which would make it one of Britain's largest in years.
Police say they're deploying some 4,500 officers, and want to communicate directly with marchers through text messages and tweets. Senior policewoman Lynne Owens on Tuesday urged marchers to "keep your phones on."
British police have faced criticism over their handling of recent student protests, which saw outbreaks of violence and many arrests.
