Cyprus says three aircraft belonging to the Qatar Air Force have made an unscheduled stop at the island's Larnaca airport to refuel.
Government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou said in a statement Tuesday that the two Mirage and one cargo aircraft will depart as soon as they have refueled.
A Cyprus Civil Aviation Department official, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that high winds forced the two Mirage 2000 and one C-17 cargo aircraft to land at Larnaca to refuel. The official said the aircraft are heading to a U.S. military base in Crete.
Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias has said the government does not condone any military action in Libya and is not taking part.
