Yemen's ambassador defects to opposition

Yemen's ambassador to Jordan has defected to the opposition ranks in his country but says will not quit his post.
With the move, Shae' Mohsin al-Zandani joins several influential officers, the clergy and tribal leaders in his homeland who have backed the opposition, which is seeking the ouster of embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Al-Zandani says his change of heart stems from his "moral ethics" and because he believes the opposition demands are legitimate.
He said on Tuesday he was Yemen's envoy to Jordan, "not Saleh's ambassador."
He insists he will continue serving as Yemen's ambassador but that he will not take orders from Saleh's regime.
The foreign ministry in Sanaa could not immediately be reached for comment.
