UN heritage meeting moved from Bahrain to Paris

The United Nations has decided to move a key world heritage meeting from Bahrain to Paris due to the ongoing political unrest in the Gulf country.
After consulting with Bahrain authorities, UNESCO's director-general, Irina Bokova, decided to change the venue for the June meeting of the World Heritage committee, which is tasked with choosing new sites for its protected list among other actions.
The announcement posted on UNESCO's website Tuesday is the latest prestigious event called off in Bahrain.
Earlier this month, the season-opening Formula One grand prix was canceled due to weeks of unrest by protesters demanding greater political freedoms for the Shiite majority.
A Saudi-led force is now supporting Bahrain's Sunni dynasty.
