Sri Lanka urged to end detention without trial

An international human rights group has urged the Sri Lankan government to release hundreds of prisoners held without charge under the country's tough anti-terror laws.
Amnesty International says in a report Wednesday that some of the detainees are kept in secret locations where they are vulnerable to torture or even death in custody.
It says the most recent official reports state 1,900 persons are being held without trial.
Sri Lanka has spent a large portion of the last 40 years under emergency law. During this time it has fought three insurgencies, one of them lasting almost three decades.
