India's ruling party resolves dispute with ally

India's ruling Congress party has resolved its differences with a key regional ally that had threatened to withdraw its ministers from beleaguered Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Cabinet.
The resolution over the number of seats the two parties plan to contest in the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections next month ends a possible threat to Singh's government in New Delhi.
Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Tuesday Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party would contest the state elections as allies.
While Singh's government is no longer in immediate danger, the dustup represents another embarrassment for an administration that has been hit by a string of corruption scandals.
