EU bank stress tests start Friday

The European Union's banking authority says EU-wide stress test on banks will be launched Friday and results will be published in June.
The European Banking Authority said Thursday the testing scenario will include "a significant deviation" from the forecast economic performance of each country, as well as "country-specific shocks on real estate prices, interest rates and sovereigns."
The EBA says it will provide national supervisors with details on the scenario this week, giving them the chance for discussion and feedback.
It will publish the macro-economic scenarios and the names of the banks that will be tested on March 18.
The new stress test are seen as central to resolving the financial crisis that has crippled Europe over the past year, especially after a previous round of test last summer failed to reassure markets.
