French luger Morgane Bonnefoy was taken to a hospital with a broken right femur Saturday after crashing during the women's singles at the luge world championships.
Bonnefoy crashed at the 15th turn on the first run and was taken from the track in an ambulance to a hospital in nearby Susa.
Organizers said Bonnefoy did not lose consciousness, but will be kept in the hospital overnight for observation. Her recovery is expected to take three weeks.
The International Luge Federation (FIL) asked local organizers to extend the track walls on several curves ahead of the world championships following the death of Georgian racer Nodar Kumaritashvili at last year's Vancouver Olympics.
