Croatian war veterans stage protest

Around 1,500 Croats have protested against the arrest in Bosnia of a Croatian war veteran who Serbia accuses of war crimes.
Tomislav Purda fought in the eastern city of Vukovar for the Croat army during the 1991 Serbo-Croat war. He was arrested Jan. 5 in Bosnia on a Serb warrant issued through Interpol. The case has inflamed relations between the former Balkan foes.
The Croatian war veterans protested Saturday against what they called the lack of protection for their wartime comrades by Croatia's government. Serbia is seeking Purda's extradition from Bosnia after Croatia refused to take over the case.
Belgrade has accuses Purda of war crimes against the injured or sick and over the alleged killing of two Serbian soldiers in November 1991 near Vukovar.
