German detained by US in Afghanistan is freed

The German foreign office says a German citizen who was detained by U.S. authorities in Afghanistan earlier this month has been released.
The foreign office said Saturday that the 23-year-old man, who has been identified by German media as Haddid N. from Frankfurt, was with German diplomats.
German media reported last week that he was arrested at his father's home in Kabul earlier this month and was in custody at Bagram Air Field military base.
Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle called U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday and expressed his thanks for the release of Haddid N.
